FISHING & FUN TRIPS ON THE GREAT LAKE TAUPO

This Trip Plan is designed for our Austraian visitors to experience Trout Fishing at it's best
in this world renowned fishery. Together with the natural environment of crystal clear waters,
snow capped volcano's, New Zealand's unique native bush and an itinerary of activities, will make
this a fun packed encounter.

This is an idyllic way to relax and spend quality time with special friends, your partner, family,
business associates, team mates etc. Solamaar makes for a real treat for a couple or family
but great for parties of up to 20 people. For larger groups we will provide other quality vessels
from the Taupo Fleet.

W
We recommend a minimum 5 hour Trip (and not less than 4 hours) to allow time to explore some of those less fished area's of the lakes 616 km², which hold some of the lakes larger trout of up to 7lb plus.
f
Typically a four or five hour trip would depart Taupo Boat Harbour to enter into Tapuaeharuru Bay. We will set lines onto the DownRiggers to 'Hook-up' along the 'Golden Mile' as we make way to Rangatira Point. We would cruise to the Whakaipo or Horomatangi Reefs where off shore we would offer the challenge of a Skeet Shoot, which is a lot of fun for everyone. We put anchor in a secluded bay to enjoy a Barbecue or Lunch and appropriate music with quality social time. If time allows the Crew will willingly Bake or Sashimi onboard your freshly caught Rainbow Trout and present for your enjoyment as we cruise back to Taupo Boat Harbour. This itinerary has been established over time as the most popular format.
f
If you wish to venture to those more remote fishing locations or to experience the tranquility of the scenic
                      W
estern Bays you will need to allow a minimum of six hours. A five-hour Charter is enough time to take
you to the 'Horomatangi Reef' or 'Whakaipo Bay' where the resident Rainbow Trout are some of Lake

                      Taupo's finest fish.

Relax in the luxurious comfort of M.V. Solamaar to take in the sights and
listen to the informative commentaries from our well informed crew.
You'll be overwhelmed by the geological evidence of the largest
known volcanic eruption to have occurred on our planet. Also you will learn something of early Maori and the European settlement in the area.
Cruises depart from the Taupo Boat Harbour.

Three Hours - A voyage from Taupo Boat Harbour on the Waikato River to Tapuaeharuru Bay and onto Mine Bay to see the Maori Carvings. Venturing 40 minutes south following the eastern shores to the Horomatangi Reef. The reef formed from the most recent eruption 1820 years ago. Visit Motutaiko Island also of volcanic origins. In historical times the Ngati Tuwharetoa Tribe used the island as a fortified stronghold. Several caves on the Northern side contain burial sites which are considered sacred and tapu.

Five Hours - Cruising via the Horomotangi Reef and Motutaiko Island we venture to the Karangahape Cliffs at the southern end of the Great Lake Taupo. At 1300 feet they are the highest cliffs on the lake. So sheer are they, the water at the base is 400 feet deep. Then across to the western shores to Waihaha Bay, the Otupotu Water Fall and returning via Boat Harbour in Kawakawa Bay and the Maori Carvings in Mine Bay. There is time to anchor up for a lunch or dinner at one of the many picturesque bays.
